County Board Member Julie Berkowicz Service to Community demonstrates her commitment to the community as a Will County Commissioner and as a member of various charitable organizations in Will County.
As Forest Preserve Commissioner
- Led the effort for improvements at the Riverview Farmstead Forest Preserve on 111th Street. This is providing higher quality open space for the surrounding subdivisions.
- Supported improvements at Whalon Lake Forest Preserve. This is providing residents with an expanded dog park and a new community pavilion. As a result, Whalon Lake and Riverview Farmstead Forest Preserve are extremely popular family destinations in our District.
As County Board Committee Member
- Sits on the Capital, Legislative & Judicial, and Diversity & Inclusion Committees.
- Continues leading on the Capital Committee to hold costs down and remain accountable to the taxpayers. Julie always considers the needs of residents and businesses in her decisions.
- Represents constituents by not only regularly attending assigned committees but also committee meetings to which she is not assigned. Julie feels it is important when casting votes to be knowledgeable of the residents’ voice when the item comes before the full County Board.
Health & Public Safety
- Julie passionately supports local law enforcement. Community safety is one of our greatest concerns today. Also, she is an active advocate for the Will County Sheriff’s, the local municipal, and Park District police departments.
- Julie is a graduate of the Naperville Police Citizens Academy. Furthermore, she is aware of their challenges and supports the expanded community roles that the police perform today. Julie is proud to have been endorsed by the Will County Deputy Sheriff’s Union and the Daily Herald in 2018.
- Julie passionately supports mental health services in the Will County Health Department. Further, she will continue to work with them to fill the void where needed.
- Julie will fight to prevent new taxes for Will County residents. She is working to prevent the duplication of services that will result from the proposed Resolution to create a 708 BOARD. Additionally, this referendum is for a NEW TAX LEVY and will be on the November ballot.
